Night Trains
There are four categories on these trains: Deluxe, Comfort, Economy, Reclining seats. If you opt for Deluxe, you will have an upstairs cabin either to yourself (Single) or shared with one other person (Double). The 2-bed cabin has a table and 2 chairs, a shower cubicle, toilet and a panorama window with blinds.
If you choose the Comfort category you will have a 2-bed compartment with washing facilities. Comfort Single means you will have a compartment to yourself, and Comfort Double offers two Single compartments with a connecting door, with the bottom bed made up in each case.
Travelling the Economy category offers you either a four or six-bed compartment. Passengers travelling alone can also share with someone of the same sex. All Economy compartments have washing facilities.
InterCity and EuroCity (IC/EC)
The well proven IC train travels in hourly or 2-hourly intervals between many bigger cities or touristic regions at speed up to 200 km/h. Trains with the same internationally stipulated quality standards as the IC, linking Germany with big cities of European neighbouring countries are the Euro City trains.
Almost all InterCity or EuroCity trains have a Board Restaurant and/or a Board Bistro. The InterCity trains of Deutsche Bahn have been meanwhile updated. There you will find electricity outlets in the first class compartments and at the table seats of the centre aisle coaches of both coach classes. The Euro-City trains consist partly of wagons of neighbouring train companies and may vary in terms of equipment.
Local Trains
A new generation of local trains offers greater comfort and faster journey times.
It includes double-deck coaches, tilting coaches and double-deck rail buses. Comfortable seats, spacious multi-purpose compartments and entry at platform level without steps are the hallmarks. The rolling stock is gradually undergoing further improvement. Departure at regular intervals with easy-to-remember departure times, designed to connect without long waiting times, makes local travel and the transition from local to long-distance travel easy and pleasant.
The following local trains are available in Germany:
InterRegioExpress (IRE)
